My maternal grandparents

These are a few old pictures of my maternal grandparents Hosur Mrithyum Jayam (H. M. Jayam) and Sharadamma. There is also a picture of my grandfather’s parents. My grandfather started his career as an electrical man carrying poles and working as a meter reading boy. He loved drawing and architecture and he was drawing various types of buildings. With encouragement from his superiors, he was able to submit his drawings and get AMIE certification. He then worked as an engineering drawing teacher in Government Engineering college for many years. His students remember him as a very good and strict teacher. He had many hobbies which included photography, playing musical instruments like veena and violin. He also liked dogs and had two Great Danes and a beautiful garden in his house in Sampige Road, Malleswaram

My grandfather's diary(1935-1936). Very happy that my parents had preserved this diary. It took considerable time to decipher the handwriting but it sure was a fun project. With help from a number of people including my neighbor, husband, son, my siblings and of course Google, we have deciphered most of the pages. I have enclosed the deciphered document as well the original pages. In the diary he describes about the Rockefeller Foundation fellowship, getting the American visa and travel preparations. He also describes his ship journey up to Egypt. Rockefeller Foundation Fellowship to U.S.A 5th April 1935 Had been to Calcutta. Saw an advertisement for the appointment of 3 Research Assistants to Rockefeller Foundation Fellowship(R.F.F) Lt. Col Stevans and Dr. Morpheus - promised to help me.  Consulted Dr. W.C.Sweet.  Advised by him to apply and promised to try to get me a fellowship to USA by RF. Did research work on guinea worm disease in Chitra

About my grandfather Dr Narasimha Moorthy

My grandfather Dr Narasimha Moorthy's 8 mm movies, some of which could be converted to DVD with audio track added by my late father Narayana Swamy. (Videos 7 and 8 are from his trip to USA and Europe. The ship can be seen in Video 8). These movies are probably from late 1930s to early 1940s.
